"Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodriguez, on Tuesday urged US President Donald Trump to lift sanctions on the country, announcing that a delegation of diplomats would travel to the United States later this week for "the start of this new stage of relations and political diplomatic dialogue between our governments." The comments, made during a meeting with national and international investors at the Miraflores Palace in Caracas, come at a time of shifting relations between Caracas and Washington after former President Maduro’s capture on January 3, creating both opportunities and uncertainty for investors. "We have asked President Trump for the investors, not only for Venezuela, which needs it, that there be no sanctions against Venezuela nor against its economy, but also for the investors," she said. Rodriguez also expressed her desire to "build true long-term bilateral relations" with the United States. “Definitely, we must, between both governments, create real conditions so that investments in the country can develop in the short, medium and long term as well," she added. "And that is why we have insisted that sanctions must cease both for Venezuela as a right, but also so that investors feel the security that their investments here have a legislative and juridical framework that provides that security," Rodriguez said. The acting president confirmed that her government is holding talks with companies interested in entering the Venezuelan market, as the country looks to rebuild key industries following years of economic crisis and sanctions. Representatives from companies in the energy, electronics, services and transport sectors attended the meeting - industries seen as central to Venezuela’s economic recovery."
