Race against time - Iranian Red Crescent first responders comb residential area for survivors after targeted Tehran strike

"First responders from the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) carried out a search and rescue operation in a residential district of Tehran in the early hours of Wednesday following airstrikes in the area. Footage shows emergency teams working at the scene, with one responder combing through the rubble alongside a rescue dog in search of survivors. The exact date and location of the footage could not be independently verified. The IRCS said its relief personnel have been heavily engaged in search and rescue efforts, as airstrikes caused significant damage to civilian infrastructure. Earlier this week, head of the IRCS Pirhosein Kulivand alleged that 81,365 civilian sites had been targeted since the start of the conflict, including 19,000 commercial centres and 61,555 residential units. In a statement, the Israeli military said, ‘The IDF continues to strike targets across Iran,’ adding that ‘it has struck more than 3,000 targets in Iran since its military operation began.’ Tensions in the Middle East escalated after the United States and Israel launched a joint military operation against Iran on 28 February, during ongoing diplomatic talks aimed at "undermining Iran's nuclear and missile programs". Tehran subsequently announced retaliatory strikes on Israel and US assets in the region, with explosions reported across several Gulf countries. Iran later confirmed the killing of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, with his son, Mujtaba Khamenei, named as his successor. The conflict has since spilt into Lebanon, where Hezbollah intervened "in revenge" for the assassination, while key shipping routes - including the Strait of Hormuz - have been disrupted."
