MANILA, Philippines - The House of Representatives “does not forget its other responsibilities” even as it proceeds with the impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte. On Wednesday, the House Committee on Justice began hearings on the two impeachment complaints it had earlier deemed sufficient in form, substance, and grounds. The panel is conducting the proceedings to determine whether there is probable cause to impeach Duterte. “Even as we undertake this solemn constitutional duty, the House of Representatives does not forget its other responsibilities,” said Batangas 2nd District Rep. Gerville Luistro, the committee chairperson, at the start of the hearing. She added that “we do not lose sight of the hardships faced by the powerless.” Luistro also cited the House’s passage of a bill authorizing President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to suspend or reduce fuel excise taxes. “We also continue to work on measures that address inflation, food security, and social services,” she said.
