"Warplanes were seen over Al-Habaniyah, with gunshots ringing out, smoke rising, and destruction on the ground on Wednesday. Iraq’s Ministry of Defence said seven military personnel were wounded, and 13 injured, calling it a 'heinous crime', a 'flagrant violation of international law' and a " crime targeting medical facilities and their staff." Media reports suggested the 'Popular Mobilisation Forces' (PMF) - the paramilitary with some alleged 'Iran-aligned elements' which have been targeted by the US in recent weeks - were sharing facilities on the ground with the regular army. Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani instructed the Foreign Ministry to summon the chargé d’affaires of the US Embassy and deliver a formal protest. Washington has not confirmed it was responsible at time of publication. It would mark the first time PMF forces have been hit alongside the regular Iraqi military. The PMF are formally part of the army too, and under the control of the PM."
