"Floodwaters from the Khabur River have inundated several residential neighbourhoods in the city of Al-Hasakah in northeastern Syria, damaging hundreds of homes in Ghuwayran, Al-Nashwa, Al-Mereidian and Al-Layliya. Footage filmed on Wednesday shows flooded streets and houses, with residents evacuating through waterlogged roads and gathering in open areas. High water levels were also seen rushing beneath a bridge. Local Aboud al-Jbouri said his home was flooded at around 4 a.m., forcing him to evacuate with his children and leave behind their belongings. He called on authorities to build barriers to prevent floodwaters from reaching residential areas, noting that such flooding occurs several times a year. Saeed Abdullah, another resident, said families are now living in the streets after their homes were submerged, adding that only the Syrian Arab Red Crescent has provided assistance so far. Meanwhile, the Syrian media reported that technical teams from the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management have been deployed to Al-Hasakah to mitigate the impact of the flooding and reduce water levels. Water levels in the Khabur River have surged over the past two days, reaching an estimated flow of 200 cubic metres per second due to heavy rainfall and overflowing tributaries — including Al-Jarjab, Al-Zarkan and Al-Jajaj — in the Ras al-Ayn and Al-Hasakah areas, leading to widespread flooding in neighbourhoods along the river.
