A North Waikato secondary school has gone into lockdown following an incident that’s left one person seriously injured. Tuakau College put out a message this morning on its website, urging people to stay away from the school. “Please DO NOT come to the school or phone the school,” it wrote. Tuakau College said contacting the school may cause disruption to the management of the incident and could potentially put people’s safety at risk. Hato Hone St John said they were notified of an incident at the college at 9.56am. It responded with one ambulance and one rapid response vehicle. “One person was assessed at the scene and has been transported to Middlemore Hospital in a serious condition,” a spokesperson said. A parent of a student at the school has forwarded a text message they received from their child to the Herald, showing a series of SOS emojis and reports of “ambulances and cops” being visible. Police have been approached for comment.
