Taal Volcano logs slight rise in sulfur emissions; seismic activity low

LUCENA CITY, Quezon — Taal Volcano recorded a slight increase in sulfur dioxide emissions, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported on Thursday. In its morning bulletin, Phivolcs said the volcano emitted 1,625 metric tons of sulfur dioxide from its main crater over the past 24 hours, a level still classified as “weak.” The latest output was higher than the daily average of 698 metric tons recorded since March 21. Despite the increase in gas emissions, seismic activity remained low, with only four volcanic earthquakes recorded during the monitoring period.
