I don’t do drugs or drink alcohol any more, but recently I was absolutely high off a DIY bender. This is 40, you guys. A month ago I moved to a new house and commenced some very low-grade DIY projects and I swear I’ve never felt so alive. After hanging a particularly heavy picture, I actually found myself having the thought “Why isn’t there a Nobel Prize for DIY?” The key to being a really successful DIYer is to have high ambitions and really, really low standards. I perfectly fit this profile. I have a vision for how I want something to be and then I have an extremely short attention span and next to zero attention to detail which means the thing will get done, though very poorly.
