ISLAMABAD: As the region faces escalating tensions following US- and Israel-led strikes on Iran, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday underscored Pakistan’s role as a peacemaker, seeking to defuse conflicts and stabilise the neighbourhood amid ongoing hostilities. Sharif made the remarks while speaking to Jiang Zaidong, China’s ambassador to Pakistan, stressing the need for continued close coordination on issues of mutual interest. He emphasised the need for sustained close coordination at all levels on issues of mutual interest, while reaffirming the enduring Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership – a cornerstone of Islamabad’s foreign policy. Highlighting China’s steadfast economic support, Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to advancing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) 2.0. He emphasised a focus on agriculture, industrial cooperation, and priority infrastructure projects, signalling Islamabad’s intent to deepen bilateral economic relations.
