Moeen, Hasan power Karachi Kings to 14-run win over Quetta Gladiators

A late blitz by Moeen Ali and a four-wicket haul from Hasan Ali steered Karachi Kings to a narrow 14-run victory over Quetta Gladiators in the second match of the Pakistan Super League Season 11 at Gaddafi Stadium on Friday. Chasing a competitive 182-run target, the Gladiators were restricted to 167/7 in their allotted 20 overs despite a brisk half-century by Shamyl Hussain. Quetta made a flying start as Hussain and skipper Saud Shakeel added 79 runs in just seven overs. Hussain led the charge with a 24-ball 52, striking five fours and four sixes, before falling to Salman Ali Agha. The Gladiators then lost momentum with quick wickets, including Khawaja Nafay and Shakeel, who made a steady 33 off 25 balls. A brief recovery came through Rilee Rossouw (25) and Hasan Nawaz, but the former’s dismissal in the 16th over halted the push. Ben McDermott remained unbeaten on 24, but could not take his side over the line. Hasan finished with figures of 4/27, while Adam Zampa, Moeen and Agha chipped in with one wicket each. Earlier, Karachi Kings posted 181/7 after being put in to bat, with none of their batters reaching a half-century. The innings got off to a shaky start as Muhammad Waseem fell for a duck to Alzarri Joseph. A quick 41-run stand between Agha (22 off 10) and skipper David Warner steadied the innings. Warner then added 43 runs with Saad Baig before both fell in quick succession, leaving Kings at 100/4 in 10.3 overs. Warner scored 35 off 22, while Baig made 30 off 23 balls. A middle-order wobble saw Azam Khan depart for 14, but Moeen anchored the late surge with an unbeaten 48 off 29 deliveries, laced with four fours and three sixes. He also shared a crucial 39-run stand with Khushdil Shah (12). For Quetta, Daniyal picked up 3/36, while Joseph claimed two wickets. Usman Tariq and Abrar Ahmed took one wicket apiece. The victory gives Karachi Kings early momentum in the tournament, while Quetta Gladiators will look to regroup after falling short despite a strong start.
