"Thousands of football fans packed Puebla City's Estadio Cuauhtemoc on Monday to watch Spain win 3-1 against Peru in a friendly ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Footage shows supporters in national team shirts making their way to the stadium carrying flags and banners. Fans were also seen posing for photos with performers, having their faces painted and showing off team colours ahead of kick-off. "We have a lot of faith in them. I think they're going to do a great job. They've done an extraordinary job in Europe, in European competitions, and hopefully Spain will give us great satisfaction," said a Spain supporter. “I think they chose the venue very well because of the large Spanish community here in Puebla. We came from Veracruz, where there is also a large Spanish community, and we're coming here to Puebla to see them. So I think it was a great idea, a fantastic place for them to play a warm-up match,” he added. Another Mexican supporter backing La Roja said, "Spain is my favourite to win the World Cup, and as for Mexico, we're making it to the fifth match." Spain’s first World Cup game will be against Cape Verde in Atlanta on June 15. Peru failed to qualify after finishing ninth in the CONMEBOL qualifying campaign. The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off on June 11, with matches taking place across the United States, Canada and Mexico in the tournament's new 48-team format."
