Heavy snow forecast for capital region in early January

Finland’s southern metropolitan area is expected to face a major snowstorm early in the new year, with weather models forecasting daily accumulations of up to 34 centimetres. The snowfall is expected on Friday 2 January. The most intense accumulation is forecast in Espoo, with 34 centimetres of snow in 24 hours. Kirkkonummi is expected to receive 31 centimetres, Helsinki and Klaukkala 30 centimetres, and Vantaa 29 centimetres. Forecasts show Porvoo could receive 25 centimetres, while Kotka and Hamina may see 14 and 12 centimetres respectively.
