
Over 800 killed as earthquake flattens villages in eastern Afghanistan
A shallow earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 struck eastern Afghanistan late Sunday night, killing at least 812 people and injuring over 3,000, according to the Taliban government. The quake hit the mountainous Kunar province, near the border with Pakistan, and was felt as far as Kabul and Islamabad. Its epicentre was located 27 kilometres from Jalalabad and occurred at a depth of just 8 kilometres, making it one of the deadliest in recent years.
