Russell T Davies Already Knows Who He'd Want To Star In A US Remake Of Tip Toe

Russell T Davies pictured at Comic-Con in 2024 Tip Toe creator Russell T Davies has admitted he’d love to see the show get remade for a US audience. And, in fact, if that were to happen, he’s already got a leading man in mind. Russell’s latest TV offering stars Alan Cumming and David Morrissey as two neighbours whose feud spirals out of control with tragic consequences, touching on issues like online radicalisation, misinformation and the rise of far-right rhetoric. Speaking to Deadline ahead of the show’s release, the Bafta winner pointed out that Tip Toe’s themes are “ every bit as much an American story” as they are a British one. He then named Matt Bomer as his choice of lead if the show were to be remade for an American audience. Matt is a Golden Globe-winning actor, whose credits include American Horror Story, 20th Century Modern and Fellow Travelers. Russell noted: “Frankly if he wants to make the American Tip Toe I’d sell it to him for 10 pence. [Radicalisation] is happening worldwide and it’s happening with every minority group to a vast extent, and it’s speeding up.” Speaking to HuffPost UK about Tip Toe , Russell described the five-part Channel 4 drama as an “urgent” and “necessary” reflection of a world that is “out of control” and “at war with ourselves”. He also shared that his new series was inspired by events from his own life, as well as those of his close friends, that left him feeling “driven to write” something addressing the show’s central themes of division and ignorance. Alan Cumming played Leo in Russell T Davies' Tip Toe The brutal Tip Toe finale premiered on Channel 4 over the weekend, with Russell also opening up to HuffPost UK about why he chose to end the show the way he did . Meanwhile, in a separate interview, he admitted there’d been “arguments” behind the scenes about how exactly to bring the series to a close. All five episodes of Tip Toe are now streaming on Channel 4.
