Windows 11 update fixes battery life issue on laptops with NPUs

Windows 11 update fixes battery life issue on laptops with NPUs

What do you use the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) in your laptop for? If you’re like most folks who bought a new laptop in the last couple of years, the answer is “not much.” The NPU is supposed to be used for local “AI” processing tasks… but since most people just use cloud-powered AI tools instead, it kind of seems like an electronic appendix—an appendix that might be costing you battery life on your laptop. Thankfully, that might be fixed with the latest Windows update. According to the patch notes for Windows 11 update KB5074109 (for 25H2 and 24H2), there was an “issue” with NPUs remaining active while laptops were idling, causing notable battery drain. It’s been fixed as of yesterday for Patch Tuesday, at least as far as Microsoft reckons. Other updates include the usual smaller bug fixes and updated drivers, new Secure Boot certificates, and an updated version of the WinSqlite3.dll file. You can see the full list over on Microsoft’s support page , and the new version should automatically download via Windows Update for most users.

Thor Actor From God Of War Ragnarök Cast As Kratos In Live Action Series

Amazon Prime’s live-action God of War series is in pre-production, and it has found its Kratos. Funny enough, the actor portraying the Ghost of Sparta is no stranger to the franchise, having previously voiced the God of Thunder in the most recent game. Deadline reports that actor Ryan Hurst will portray Kratos. Hurst is probably best known for his role as Opie Winston in the FX series Sons of Anarchy , and he most recently appeared in the Netflix series The Abandons last year. However, Hurst also provided the voice of Thor in 2022’s God of War Ragnarök , a performance that earned him a BAFTA nomination. In those games, Kratos was portrayed by Christopher Judge. Ryan Hurst stands with a statue of Kratos Amazon Prime’s series is an adaptation of the Norse entries in the series, which includes Ragnarök and its 2018 predecessor, God of War . The show centers on Kratos and his son, Atreus, and will follow the first game’s story of the pair traveling on a quest to scatter the ashes of their wife and mother. The rest of the cast has not been revealed. Amazon has ordered two seasons of the show, which will be helmed by showrunner, writer, and executive producer Ronald D. Moore ( Outlander, Battlestar Galactica ). It will be co-produced by Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios, PlayStation Productions, and Tall Boy Productions. God of War is currently set to begin filming in Vancouver in March. God of War will be the latest video game adaptation to hit Amazon Prime, following series such as Like a Dragon: Yakuza and its biggest hit, Fallout . This feature could give users multiple translation choices instead of a single result, which would be useful in a variety of situations. The in-development feature was […] The post Google Translate could soon help you capture nuance with alternate translations appeared first on Digital Trends .
