Two aftershocks jolt Bogo City, Cebu on Oct. 15

CEBU CITY, Philippines – Two aftershocks of the September 30 earthquake hit Bogo City, northern Cebu on Wednesday, October 15, just three minutes apart. The first jolt occurred at 3:55 p.m., measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter located approximately 19 kilometers east of Bogo City. Three minutes later, another aftershock with a magnitude of 4.3, struck the city. For the 4.6 aftershock, Intensity III was recorded in Villaba town, Leyte, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). Cebu quake death toll reaches 75, over 700K people affected — NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines — The death toll in the 6.9 magnitude earthquake that rocked northern Cebu in Sept. 2025 is up to 75, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Wednesday. In its latest report, theNDRRMC said that aside from the 75 fatalities, there were also 559 people injured with no missing. As of Monday, the quake has affected 744,566 persons or 212,445 families with the most victims coming from Daanbantayan, Bogo City and Bantayan followed by Borbon, Catmon and Carmen. Eight road sections and 20 bridges that were affected by the quake were now reported passable. Of the 91 cities/municipalities where power was cut off, 43 have been restored, leaving 48 still experiencing interruptions. Water supply in 8 cities/municipalities were interrupted. Seven areas have since had their water supply back, leaving only one area still affected. Communication lines in 17 areas were also affected but service was now back in seven still leaving10 with communication problems. Of the three seaports that were affected, two remain non-operational. However, there were no reports of stranded passengers, rolling cargoes, vessels and motorbancas. A total of 106,283 houses were reportedly damaged. There were also 775 other structures that were destroyed worth P6,765,661. Classes remain suspended in 115 areas and work in 29 others. Overall, 53 cities/municipalities in Central Visayas were declared under a State of Calamity. As of Wednesday, a total of P400,341,853.83 worth of aid has been given to affected families.
