ICI taps military, police, engineering groups to help in probe of 421 'ghost' flood control projects
MANILA, Philippines — The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) on Friday said it has begun organizing inter-agency teams to investigate hundreds of allegedly anomalous flood control projects identified across the country. ICI special adviser Rodolfo Azurin Jr. said the ICI was coordinating with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and various engineering groups, including those from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and civil engineers’ organizations, to conduct technical inspections and forensic validation. "In connection with the investigation, we are organizing the units, agencies, and personnel who will be part of the probe," Azurin said in an interview. "We’ve been coordinating with the AFP, PNP, NBI, and engineers from the DPWH, AFP, and civil engineering organizations who can assist in inspecting and validating the identified projects," he added. Azurin said the commission tasked the AFP, PNP, and DPWH to identify which of these were "ghost, substandard, unfinished, or overpriced." “Physically, the AFP, PNP, and the Department of Development have already inspected the sites. They identified 421 ghost projects nationwide," the ICI official said. “The verification is done; we are now proceeding to technical validation with our pool of engineers," he added.

Mayor Nestor Archival has announced plans to pursue a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for the construction of the Ban-Tal Skyway Project, a major infrastructure initiative aimed at decongesting one of the city’s most traffic-choked routes. Mango scion key suspect in possible homicide of clothing firm's founder
MADRID, Spain — Spanish police are investigating the sudden death of the Mango clothing empire’s founder Isak Andic as a possible homicide. Local media reported on Thursday that his son was the key suspect. Andic, 71, founded one of Europe’s largest fashion groups with around 2,800 stores worldwide.
