Palace rejects Sara's offer of 'free advice' on flood solutions, says to give it to 'Mayor Baste' instead

MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang criticized Vice President Sara Duterte for joking about giving "free advice" to the Marcos administration on how to solve the country’s flood problem. In a text message, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the vice president should give her advice to her brother, acting Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte, if she has the solutions as a result of her frequent trips abroad. "The vice president doesn't want to give free advice for the country?! If she has learned a solution to the country's flooding problem through her various travels, she should give her free advice to acting Mayor Baste of Davao City," Castro said in Filipino. "Let's wait and see whether it's effective and if their city will no longer experience flooding," she added.

Volkswagen faces $30-M compensation for labor abuses in Brazil

SAO PAULO — Brazil’s labor court on Friday ordered Volkswagen to pay 165 million reais (about $30 million) for collective moral damages. This was after workers were subjected to slave-like conditions at a company-owned farm in the Amazon during the 1970s and 1980s. Prosecutors said it is the largest such reparation in the country’s history. The Labor Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation in 2019 after obtaining extensive documentation from a local priest who had tracked the case for decades. Following further inquiries and witness testimony, prosecutors formally charged Volkswagen in 2024. The court accepted the charges that hundreds of workers […]... DOJ issues lookout order vs Atong Ang, others over missing cockfighters

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Justice (DOJ) has placed businessman Charlie “Atong” Ang and several other individuals under an Immigration Lookout Bulletin Order (ILBO) in connection with the case of missing cockfighters, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla has confirmed. Remulla said the order covered persons identified by whistleblower Julie “Dondon” Patidongan, also known as “Totoy,” who tagged Ang as the alleged mastermind behind the disappearances. Patidongan claimed that more than 100 sabungeros were abducted between 2021 and 2022, killed, and dumped in Taal Lake. He further alleged that actress Gretchen Barretto was linked to the disappearances. Both Ang and Barretto have denied the accusations. Ang said Patidongan threatened to connect him to the abductions unless he paid P300 million, while Barretto also claimed she was subjected to a similar extortion attempt. The case of the missing cockfighters remains unsolved, with authorities continuing to investigate the claims.
