'Ramil' slows over Sea of Sorsogon but storm signals still up over parts of Luzon, Visayas

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration ((Pagasa) said that tropical storm "Ramil" decelerated while moving over the Sea of Sorsogon. In its 11 a.m. bulletin, the weather bureau said the center of "Ramil" was over the coastal waters of Palapag, Northern Samar. It was moving west southwestward at 20 kilometers per hour, with maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph. The following areas are under Signal No. 2: 1. Over 3,200 passengers stranded as 'Ramil' disrupts sea travel — PCG

MANILA, Philippines — More than 3,200 passengers, truck drivers, and cargo helpers were stranded in various ports across Bicol, Southern Tagalog, Eastern Visayas, and Northeastern Luzon on Saturday morning as Tropical Depression "Ramil" continued to affect sea travel, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG). In its maritime safety advisory issued from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m., the PCG reported that 3,239 passengers, 887 rolling cargoes, and six vessels were stranded, while 20 vessels and 14 motorbancas took shelter amid rough seas and strong winds brought by the storm. The PCG said 21 ports were affected, including major ones in Bicol such as Tobaco, Pioduran, Pasacao, Virac, Cataingan, Aroroy, Mobo, San Pascual, Claveria, Cawayan, Castilla, Matnog, and Pilar. In the region, 2,494 passengers and 743 rolling cargoes were stranded, while 11 vessels and five motorbancas took shelter. In Southern Tagalog, the ports of Real, Atimonan, and Alabat recorded 90 stranded passengers and 17 rolling cargoes, with six vessels and two motorbancas taking shelter. In Eastern Visayas, Sta. Clara, Dapdap, and Looc ports reported 655 stranded passengers and 127 rolling cargoes, while two vessels sought shelter. In Northeastern Luzon, one vessel and seven motorbancas were taking shelter at the ports of San Vicente and Linao Wharf. The PCG said it continued to monitor maritime conditions and reminded the public to heed warnings from authorities as Ramil persisted over the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

MANILA, Philippines — Former Speaker Martin Romualdez asked the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) to postpone his hearing scheduled next week, as he would supposedly undergo a "medical procedure," the commission announced Saturday. "Congressman Ferdinand Martin Romualdez has requested to postpone the hearing originally set for Oct. 22, 2025, as he is scheduled to undergo a medical procedure," the ICI said in its advisory. "The Commission will issue an advisory once a date for the next hearing has been determined," it added. Romualdez, counsin of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, is one of those who are tagged in the flood control issue in the country. Amid the accusation, Romualdez stepped down from the House speakership to allow the full investigation of the issue.
