Intel’s playing favorites with its new Core Ultra 200HX shipments

Intel’s playing favorites with its new Core Ultra 200HX shipments

If you want to buy a gaming laptop with the latest Intel Core Ultra 200HX processor, choose carefully. Intel is supplying its Core Ultra 200HX processors to manufacturers in waves, according to laptop makers. That means that some gaming laptops will be available almost immediately, while others won’t be available until the end of the second quarter. Intel quietly launched its mobile “Arrow Lake Refresh” series of processors — Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus and Ultra 7 270HX Plus — on Tuesday. They represent the mobile version of the Core Ultra 200S Plus series of processors, which launched for desktop PCs last week. Both families include an increase of 900MHz between the CPU and the memory controller, adding more bandwidth, as well as the new Intel Binary Optimization Tool, a way of optimizing game code to increase performance on supported titles. Intel was somewhat vague about laptop availability. At the end of its press release, the company said: “Intel Core Ultra 200HX Plus-powered systems will be available from our OEM partners throughout the year, starting today, March 17, 2026.” In reality, that implies that only two vendors — Lenovo and Razer — will ship immediately. As for other OEMs, the release dates are a bit staggered. Dell’s Alienware 18 Area-51 Gaming Laptop will be ready to ship on March 31, and a representative from MSI said that shipments are expected in the second quarter for the Raider 16 Max HX. Acer, on the other hand, said it wouldn’t announce pricing for the Predator Helios Neo 16S AI, 16 AI, and 18 AI until closer to the July ship date. Finally, an Asus spokesman said that U.S. customers will probably have to wait until at least late May. Several customers referred to being placed in a specific “wave” of availability. Intel representatives did not respond to a request for comment. Lenovo’s Legion 7i with a Core Ultra 9 275HX and an RTX 5070 GPU can be picked up at Best Buy for $2,179.99. Lenovo’s also selling the Legion 5i, the Pro 7i, and the Legion Pro 5i. Razer’s advertising the Blade 18 for $4,099.99 , and it’s scheduled to ship between March 20 – March 23. This includes configurations with an RTX 5070 Ti, a 5080, and a 5090. Intel said in January that it’s facing a chip shortage as the company prioritizes silicon for its higher-margin server business as opposed to PC customers. It’s not clear, however, if that’s the reason for this “wave” strategy, or if it was forced to do by ongoing shortages in the RAM and storage markets. Still, if you want to buy a laptop with a new Intel Core Ultra 200HX processor inside, you’ll simply have to be flexible — or wait.

Highguard Players Get Refunds As Dev Seemingly Shuts Down For Good

The free-to-play shooter Highguard has officially shut down, and now players on PS5 are reporting that refunds are coming in for certain items they may have paid for and can now no longer use. People are saying on Reddit ( via Kotaku ) that Sony is now giving refunds for microtransaction purchases. Some said they bought microtransactions specifically because they enjoyed Highguard and wanted to support the developers. "I honestly didn't care for a refund," one person said. Some have theorized that Wildlight offering refunds for Highguard players on PS5 might be tied to some kind of mandated policy from Sony. It's unclear if refunds will go out on Xbox or PC.
