TechCrunch : Mistral announces Mistral Forge to help enterprises build custom models actually trained on their own data, using Mistral open-weight models as a starting point —  Most enterprise AI projects fail not because companies lack the technology, but because the models they're using don't understand their business.

Remedy releases its final content update for FBC: Firebreak

Remedy releases its final content update for FBC: Firebreak

What a short, strange journey it's been for FBC: Firebreak ; Remedy announced that the final update for the online multiplayer game is available today. But while this Open House update will be the end of new content, the studio said it plans to keep the game available. " FBC: Firebreak will stay online and continue to be playable for years to come," Remedy said. "We have done engineering work to ensure we can sustain the upkeep of the relay servers when the player volume is lower." Remedy has won lots of fans for creating the eerie, surreal world where its hits Control and Alan Wake are set. FBC: Firebreak , which was released last year, is also based in that universe. However, this multiplayer game took a beating in reviews, largely due to its poorly received onboarding experience and Remedy shared plans to improve the first few hours of the game. Its CEO also left the company last year and sparked a shakeup in the leadership at the studio. The Open House update will add some new in-game content, but the more interesting changes seem aimed at making FBC: Firebreak more accessible. The base price has been dropped to $20, and the game has added a feature called Friend's Pass that will allow people who don't own the game to accept match invites from players who do own it. Spotify rolls out 'bit-perfect' playback in Windows app

Spotify rolls out 'bit-perfect' playback in Windows app

Spotify is introducing a way for subscribers to get bit-perfect playback of songs if they listen on Windows. The company's newly announced "Exclusive Mode" gives the music streaming app complete control of audio processing on your PC so you can listen to songs exactly as they were mastered. "Without Exclusive Mode turned on, your computer may alter audio before it reaches your DAC by resampling it, mixing other system sounds in, and changing the volume," Spotify writes. With the mode enabled, all other sounds from your computer are disabled so Spotify can deliver the highest quality and most accurate version of a song possible. Exclusive Mode will help maintain fidelity while you’re playing a song, but to make sure you're not losing quality anywhere else in the chain, you'll still want to listen with wired headphones connected to a DAC or digital-to-analog converter, and opt to use Spotify’s lossless streaming option. Exclusive Mode is only available on Windows for now, but Spotify says it'll come to the macOS version of the Spotify app "in a future release." Provided you're a Spotify Premium subscriber, enabling the feature is fairly simple: Open Spotify . Click on Settings . Scroll down to Playback . Toggle Exclusive Mode to "On" under the Output section. Spotify launched its Lossless streaming option as a perk for Premium subscribers in September 2025. The company was rumored to be working on the feature as far back as 2017 and even formally announced it as Spotify HiFi in 2021, opening up the possibility it could be a more expensive add-on to a normal subscription. Now both lossless audio and “bit-perfect” playback are included as part of the same $13 per month you pay for a Premium subscription. Take-Two CEO Can't Imagine An Adult Who Will Skip GTA 6

Take-Two CEO Can't Imagine An Adult Who Will Skip GTA 6

In a recent interview, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick revealed that he has absolute faith in Grand Theft Auto 6 , and isn't worried about players who are new to the franchise being unwilling to engage with it. In fact, he says he can't think of any reason a grown adult with a console wouldn't purchase Rockstar's upcoming game. "I think we're gonna have a lot of 17-year-olds playing GTA 6," Zelnick said (via The Game Business .) "I don't think there's any risk of [them] being like, 'Oh, I didn't play [GTA] 5, or 4, or 3, or 2, or 1, I'm not showing up [for 6].' To the contrary, I think we'll be able to engage every appropriate individual in GTA 6." GTA 6 will almost certainly be rated M for Mature (intended for ages 17 and up) by the ESRB , so the 17-and-up age group is Take-Two's target demographic, and Zelnick says the game will have no problem cornering the market. In fact, he can't imagine a world where an adult with access to a console wouldn't want to play GTA 6. Continue Reading at GameSpot

DLSS 5 backlash: Nvidia’s CEO says gamers are ‘completely wrong’

DLSS 5 backlash: Nvidia’s CEO says gamers are ‘completely wrong’

In just a day, Nvidia’s DLSS 5 technology has become the hot button for most of the PC and gaming world. Now Nvidia’s chief executive has weighed in, claiming that everyone is “completely wrong” about the technology. At a question-and-answer session at Nvidia’s own Game Technology Conference, Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang said that “as I have explained very carefully, DLSS 5 fuses controllability of the of geometry and textures and everything about the game with generative AI,” he said. Huang went on to say of the controversy: “They’re completely wrong.” Nvidia’s DLSS 5 has sparked controversy because it essentially applies a generative AI filter to computer graphics. Nvidia describes DLSS 5 as a “real-time neural rendering model that infuses pixels with photoreal lighting and materials,” and a “GPT moment for graphics — blending hand-crafted rendering with generative AI”. Many users hate it. Huang dropped the announcement of DLSS 5 into a a brief segment of an hours-long keynote address at the GTC conference in San Jose, most dealing with the cloud, AI, and powerful AI workstations. But it’s the visuals that have sparked controversy, as they appear to almost apply a generative AI “skin” on top of the rendered game model. It’s most noticeable with characters — characters that are quite familiar to users. Even some of the small tweaks that the tool applied provoked online criticism of “AI slop.” Nvidia Hunag claimed that all of the generative AI capabilities will be subject to the control of the developer themselves. “It’s not post-processing, it’s not post-processing at the frame level, it’s generative control at the geometry level,” he told the audience . Huang’s comments hearkened back to Apple’s “Antennagate” controversy, where users who held the iPhone 4 could end up interfering with the phone’s antennas and the signal reception. Apple chief executive Steve Jobs told users to avoid holding the iPhone in a way that the interference would occur, and the phrase “You’re holding it wrong” — though perhaps misattributed to Jobs — became part of Apple lore . Unfortunately, Nvidia’s casual introduction of the DLSS 5 technology, landing in the middle of an audience which has become extremely polarized about AI, means that Huang’s statement will be brought up again until Nvidia finally starts explaining what DLSS 5 is and why customers and developers need it. DLSS 5 is expected to launch this fall. PCWorld staff discussed the DLSS 5 pros, cons, and backlash for over an hour on our Full Nerd podcast this afternoon. Check out our hot takes and level-headed nuanced takes alike in the video below.
