Egypt, Qatar vow to continue efforts on Gaza ceasefire, accuse Israel of 'intransigence'

"Egypt and Qatar reaffirmed their commitment to continuing their joint efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, despite what they described as Israel's 'intransigence'. "We will continue our efforts and communications with the concerned regional and international parties to press on Israel to accept the agreement,” Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said during a press conference in Cairo on Thursday.   "Despite the lack of positive response and intransigence from the Israeli side, these efforts will not stop," he continued.   Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani stated that the Qatar-Egyptian mediation is still waiting for a response from Israel. "Unfortunately, these efforts have been met with further disregard," he claimed. On August 18, Egypt and Qatar submitted a proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza that was accepted by Hamas, but the Israeli side has yet to respond.   The war in Gaza broke out on October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched an attack on Israel, killing 1,139 people and kidnapping more than 200 others.   Israel has conducted military operations across Gaza in response, with 62,966 Palestinians killed and 159,266 others injured at the time of publication, according to Gaza's Ministry of Health."
