Ukraine conflict won't end in 2025! - Italy's FM Tajani threatens more sanctions on Russia, slams Israel over Gaza

"Italy's Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said he does not believe that the Ukraine conflict will be resolved 'before the end of the year', and criticised Israel for its 'disproportionate' response to the October 7 attack by Hamas, in Rome on Thursday. “The war is not going to end tomorrow morning. I don’t want to be too pessimistic, but before the end of the year, I don’t think there can be solutions,” he said, stressing that new sanctions against Russia must follow. Tajani also outlined on Thursday Italy’s plan to guarantee Ukraine’s security after the ongoing conflict, adding that the primary priority remains ending the war. “First, we need to end the war, because then we can talk about things that will happen if and when the war ends,” Tajani told reporters. He added that Italy will not send operational troops to Ukrainian soil, proposing instead a system similar to NATO’s Article 5, whereby countries, including the United States, sign a treaty with Ukraine and commit to mutual assistance in case of an external attack. Regarding Gaza, Tajani noted that Italy was actively engaging with partners in the Middle East. He called for intensified sanctions on violent settlers in the West Bank, accusing them of undermining the two-state solution."
