'It's a catastrophe!' - Paris protesters march against Gaza 'famine', killing of journalists

"Hundreds of protesters marched the streets of Paris on Wednesday to denounce the war in Gaza, demanding a boycott of Israel amid UN warnings of 'famine' in the besieged enclave. Footage shows activists with Palestinian flags, signs and banners, chanting and banging pots. Some were seen carrying figures of malnourished Gaza children and a coffin draped in a Palestinian flag. "Today, the Palestinians are suffering genocide. The urgent task today is to stop this genocide and impose sanctions. Justice for the Palestinians is the most urgent priority," stated Layla, spokesperson of the Europalestine collective. "The situation in Gaza, Palestine, is deplorable [...] on the rare occasions when they are able to obtain supplies, the humanitarian foundation for Gaza was led by Israel and the United States, who set traps for the Gazans, luring them in to collect food so they could shoot them," added Sebastien, a protester. Protesters also condemned the recent killings of six journalists operating in Gaza. "The number of journalists murdered in 15 days is beyond count... More than 250 journalists murdered, it's a catastrophe [...] we still have journalists and media in France who play into the hands of propaganda, and today, that is no longer possible," Layla said. Five journalists were killed in an Israeli 'double tap' airstrike on Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza on Monday. A few hours later, a sixth reporter was killed in Khan Younis, bringing the total to 246 since October 2023, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. Hussam al-Masri, a camera operator contracted by Reuters, Mohammed Salama, a photographer for Al-Jazeera, and Mariam Dagga, a freelancer for Associated Press - as well as reporters Moaz Abu Taha and Ahmed Abu Aziz - were among those confirmed killed. Israel claimed it was targeting a Hamas surveillance camera, which the group denied, sparking international condemnation. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu termed the incident a 'tragic mishap'. Israel also rejected a report by the UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), saying there was 'no famine in Gaza' and the document was based on 'Hamas lies'. The Hamas-Israel war in Gaza broke out on October 7, 2023, when the group launched an unprecedented attack on Israel, killing 1,139 people and kidnapping more than 200 others, according to the Israeli side. The Israeli military conducted a widespread military operation across Gaza, with more than 62,000 people killed at the time of publication, according to Palestinian officials."
