'We won't fight brotherly Russia!' - 'Revival' party supporters in Sopot protest amid VDL's visit to Bulgarian arms plant

"Supporters of Bulgaria's nationalist Revival party gathered in Sopot on Sunday to protest European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's visit to a local arms production site connected with a major NATO-linked investment. Footage shows dozens of protesters waving Bulgarian flags and holding signs, among others reading: 'No war' and 'Ursula, go to jail'. Police officers are seen guarding the entrance to the facility and keeping order. The military engineering plant was built during Bulgaria's Soviet era and is now set to receive €2 billion investment by German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall to produce ammunition that meets NATO standards. Activists at the rally criticised the Bulgarian government and the European Commission, saying that the deal mainly benefits Germany and the EU, not Bulgaria, and only causes 'more graves'. "They want to send our children to fight against Russia, I do not agree with doing this against brotherly Russia," a protester said. "These politicians are making money on other people’s graves, and we don’t want Bulgaria to be a part of that," added a second. On the same day, a similar protest was reportedly held by members of the newly formed Billion Euro Party."
