Train derailment kills three, injures dozens more in northern Egypt

"Three people were killed and 103 more were injured after a passenger train derailed in northern Egypt on Saturday. The train was travelling from Dabaa in Marsa Matrouh province to Alexandria. Footage shows railway crews at the scene assessing the damage and moving the damaged train and tracks away.  In a statement pertinent to the accident, the Egyptian Transport Ministry said, "An accident occurred when seven waggons of the train No. 1935, travelling from Masra Matrouh to Cairo, came off the track between the Fouk and Jalal stations within Matrouh province." According to the Ministry of Health, the Egyptian Ambulance Authority dispatched 37 ambulances immediately after the accident. The total number of people injured reached 103, with 3 fatalities. The injured were transported to Dabaa Central and Ras El Hekma hospitals for treatment.  "87 injured in Dabaa and Ras El Hekma hospitals were discharged with stabilised health after treatment, while 6 cases were transferred to El Alamein Hospital, as well as 16 others who remained under observation. However, all of these cases are in stable condition except for 3 cases that are in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU)," the statement added. At the time of publication, the authorities have not yet announced a cause for the accident, as the investigation is ongoing."
