'Break through Israeli blockade!' - Thousands rally in Madrid as Global Sumud Flotilla prepares to sail from Barcelona to Gaza
"Thousands of pro-Palestine activists marched along Madrid Rio on Sunday in support of Global Sumud Flotilla aiming to reach Gaza in an effort to break the ongoing Israeli siege. Footage shows large crowds chanting while marching with Palestinian flags. Activists were also gathering along the riverbanks and bridges with anti-Israel signs and banners. "Let's hope that the international pressure is strong enough, and let's hope that they manage to break through the blockade that has been in place until now. The food and supplies they are taking with them are a symbolic gesture, and hope that this will be the beginning of the end of the genocide," Enrique Quintanilla, RESCOP movement's spokesperson, said. "This is an act of protest and support for the Palestinian people and a condemnation of the genocide that is taking place right now in Gazar," Eva, an activist, added. The Global Sumud Flotilla, scheduled to depart from Barcelona on Sunday, brings together volunteers from around the world in a bid to open a humanitarian corridor into Gaza. Out of roughly 26,000 applicants, only a few hundred were selected to board the 100 boats taking part, all carrying humanitarian aid. After leaving Barcelona, the flotilla will head to Tunisia to join more vessels, then meet others from Italy and undisclosed ports before sailing together to Gaza. The initiative is part of the global campaign 'From all rivers to Gaza', involving people from over 40 countries. Since 2010, all flotillas to Gaza have been blocked or intercepted by Israeli forces, with some ending in deadly clashes. Israeli officials have previously dismissed flotillas bound for Gaza as 'selfie yachts of celebrities', 'stunts', and 'Instagram activism', claiming they may have links to Hamas."
