Lewis Capaldi Claims Some Stars Lied About Checking In On Him During His Mental Health Break

Lewis Capaldi on stage at Glastonbury in June Lewis Capaldi is opening up about the stars who showed him their support during his recent mental health break. And, indeed, the ones who only said they did. Back in 2023, Lewis gave a difficult performance at Glastonbury , during which he struggled to get through his signature hit Someone Like You due to tics brought about by his Tourette’s syndrome . Shortly afterwards, the Grammy nominee announced he would be taking an extended break from the spotlight to focus on both his physical and mental health, eventually making a triumphant return to the festival – and the UK charts – earlier in the summer. On Friday morning, Lewis paid a visit to Hits Radio Breakfast , where he spoke about how music icon Sir Elton John reached out to him the morning after his ill-fated Glastonbury performance. “The day after the first Glastonbury I got a phone call from Elton John and he was like, ‘it’s a great idea to take a break’ and stuff like that,” Lewis recalled. “I knew he had my email but I didn’t know he had my number so he must have got it from management or something. He just phoned up and said it was a good idea to take a break and that he thinks it was, yeah, a wise decision. He is a cool, cool guy, a cool dude.” Later in the interview, Lewis shared that fellow singer Niall Horan was also there for him “quite a lot” during his time out, but the same seemingly can’t be said for everyone. “ There were some people that said they checked in on me, who did not check in on me,” he claimed, and while he refused to “name and shame” the stars in question, he conceded that it was a “bizarre” and “really weird” thing to have lied about. I’m gonna get up and live, until the day that I die.” Survive debuted at number one in the UK singles chart – his sixth song to reach this pinnacle – and was followed by an announcement that he would be going on tour in 2026 .
