Ready for action - Philippines, Australia enhance military capabilities with live-fire drills in Central Luzon

"The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Australian Defence Force (ADF) conducted a live-fire exercise at Fort Magsaysay, in Nueva Ecija, in the Central Luzon region, on Wednesday, in order to strengthen defence cooperation and enhance the capabilities of the troops. Footage shows the military personnel engaging in various combat situations, using a variety of artillery, missiles, and tanks to destroy targets from different distances. "One of the major training outcomes for Australia, and this is showing that we can deploy a combat-ready and combat-capable force within the Indo-Pacific region in order to assist an important security partner such as the Philippines," noted Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Raven of the Royal Australian Regiment. "Our primary mission is to be ready to deploy anywhere across the region, and indeed the world, should the Australian Government call upon requirements to respond with motor force," he added. The Commanding General of the Philippine Air Force, Lieutenant General Arthur Cordura, praised the drills as a significant step towards Manila's transition to territorial defence missions. "Strong allies like Australia help us transition and allow us to create a good mindset on how the forces and the capabilities can be optimised in a territorial defence," he pointed out. Over 3,600 personnel are participating in Exercise Alon 2025, which includes members from the ADF, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, units from the Royal Canadian Navy, and the United States Marine Corps' Marine Rotation Force, according to the Australian Defence Ministry. The drills, officially dubbed 'Exercise Amphibious and Land Operations' (ALON), kicked off on August 15 and will continue until August 29."
