ALIYEKUWA Naibu Rais Rigathi Gachagua sasa anamtaka Rais William Ruto kutuma wanajeshi wa Kenya (KDF) mjini Mandera kuwafurusha wanajeshi wa jimbo la Jubbaland wanaodaiwa kuendesha shughuli zao mjini humo. Bw Gachagua Jumapili, Agosti 31, 2025 alionya kuwa uwepo wa wanajeshi wa kigeni Mandera ni tishio kwa wakazi na unahujumu usalama wa kitaifa. “Haiwezekani kwamba wanajeshi wa kigeni wako nchini mwetu na serikali inakimya. Amiri Jeshi Mkuu amekimya. Tunamtaka Amiri Jeshi Mkuu wa KDF kuamuru operesheni ya kuwaondoa wanajeshi wa kigeni katika ardhi yetu. Hii ni nchi yetu. Serikali iliyoko mamlakani inapaswa kulinda mipaka yake,” Bw Gachagua akasema alipohutubia waumini katika Kanisa la PCEA, Ongata Rongai, Kaunti ya Kajiado. Wito wa Gachagua umejiri siku moja baada ya Gavana wa Mandera Adan Khalif kuitaka serikali kuu kuingilia kati na kuwaonda wanajeshi hao wanaosababisha hofu na usumbufu katika mji wa Mandera. Akiongea Agosti 30, 2025  alipoongoza hafla ya uzinduzi wa kituo cha matibabu ya figo katika hospitali ya rufaa ya Mandera, Gavana huyo alisema wanajeshi hao wamepiga kambi katika eneo la Boder Point One na wamezua hofu kiasi cha kuchangia kufungwa kwa shule moja. “Mandera haiwezi kuwa uwanja wa vita kati ya vikosi vya Somalia. Hatuna masilahi yoyote katika migogoro ya Somalia. Tunataka amani,” alisema Gavana Khalif. “Endapo serikali kuu haitawaondoa wanajeshi hawa tutalazimika kuchukua hatua sisi wenyewe,” akasema, bila kufafanua kuhusu hatua watazochukua. Vikosi vya Jeshi la Kitaifa la Somalia na wanajeshi wa jimbo linalojitawala la Jubbaland wamekuwa wakipigana kwa muda sasa na wakazi wa Mandera wanahofia kuwa vita hivyo vitazagaa hadi kaunti hiyo na kuvuruga maisha yao. Serikali ya Kenya haijatoa taarifa yoyote kuhusu madai ya uwepo wa wanajeshi wa Jubbaland mjini Mandera. Hata hivyo, juzi Naibu Rais wa Jubbaland Mohamed Sayid alinukuliwa na tovuti ya habari ya “Hiran Online” akisema kuwa wanajeshi wake wamejikita eneo la mpaka kati ya jimbo hilo na Kenya.
