P2.4M tricycle terminal opens in Pasig West Bank

MANILA, Philippines — Pasig City inaugurated a P2.4-million tricycle terminal in the West Bank where tricycles would no longer queue on the road and would instead line up inside the terminal, Mayor Vico Sotto announced, on Tuesday. The project includes a two- to three-meter-wide extended carriageway for tricycles and a 42-meter-long waiting shed with urinal and drainage. Sotto said a portion of the Floodway beneath the terminal site partially collapsed during Typhoon Karina, adding that the city coordinated first before allowing the project to proceed. “This may not be the biggest infrastructure project, but it is important for both the safety and convenience of drivers and commuters,” Sotto said. The P2.4-million terminal also has concrete BI pipes installed beneath alternating spans for structural stability, a lighting and electrical system with 13 waterproof fixtures, and a 105-meter cyclone wire interlink fence.

AFP supports Coast Guard's move to invite govt officials for mission to West PH Sea

MANILA, Philippines — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said on Tuesday that it was supportive of the Philippine Coast Guard’s (PCG) initiative to invite government officials to see missions in the West Philippine Sea (WPS). “First and foremost, the AFP supports the initiative of the Philippine Coast Guard and other government agencies to invite senior government officials to see what is out there in the West Philippine Sea either by air or by sea,” Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad, AFP spokesman for the WPS told reporters. The support comes following an invitation by Commodore Jay Tarriela, PCG spokesman, to Sen. Rodante Marcoleta to participate in a maritime domain awareness flight over the Kalayaan Island Group (KIG) after he suggested giving up the controversial island group because it lay beyond the country’s 200 nautical mile exclusive economic zone (EEZ). Trinidad said the invitation to government officials to visit the disputed islands was something that had been done before. Even media personalities were regularly invited to cover drills in the area where Chinese maritime forces usually appeared and performed coercive and aggressive actions. The KIG is part of the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea. Located 280 nautical miles from the baseline, the KIG forms part of the Municipality of Kalayaan in Palawan and comprises more than 130 features, including seven islands and two reefs.

Solons claim seeing communications proving Marcos knew of insertions

MANILA, Philippines — A House lawmaker on Tuesday alleged that he had seen “records of communications” that would prove that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. personally knew and facilitated kickbacks from anomalous insertions in the national budget – critical evidence he said would have been made public had the impeachment complaint against him survived the lower chamber.  Addressing the plenary on Tuesday, ACT Teachers Rep.
