MANILA, Philippines — Local chief executives in Quezon City and northern Metro Manila have ordered the cancellation of classes in all levels in private and public schools on Monday due to Typhoon Uwan. Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and the mayors of Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela cancelled face-to-face classes and directed school authorities to conduct alternative modes of learning. Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie Gatchalian and Caloocan City Mayor Dave Gonzalo Malapitan also cancelled work. “Work in city government offices will likewise be suspended. However, offices providing emergency, disaster response, and essential public services will remain operational,” Malapitan said. Gatchalian told The Manila Times that emergency and disaster response offices would remain operational. “Work suspension for private companies, on the other hand, will be at the discretion of their respective management,” Gatchalian said.

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Sunday ordered the suspension of work in government offices on Monday, November 10, as well as classes in several regions on November 10 and 11, due to the expected major impact of Super Typhoon Uwan upon the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, by the authority of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., issued Memorandum Circular No. 106 which suspends government work in the National Capital Region (NCR), Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and in the regions of Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Southern Tagalog, Mimaropa, Bicol and Eastern Visayas on November 10. The circular suspended classes in all levels in those regions, including Regions VI, VII, and the Negros Island Region, for two days. However, agencies involved in the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services, were directed to continue their operations and render the necessary services to ensure continuity of essential government functions. “All other government agencies in the aforementioned regions may implement alternate work arrangements, as may be necessary, subject to applicable laws, rules and regulations,” MC 106 further stated. The localized cancellation or suspension of classes and/or work in government offices in other regions “may be implemented by their respective Local Chief Executives, pursuant to relevant laws, rules and regulations.” On the other hand, the suspension of work in private companies and offices is left to the discretion of their respective heads.

MANILA, Philippines — Some areas in Metro Manila, Batangas, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal will have power interruptions this week because of maintenance works, Meralco said on Sunday. In Metro Manila, some areas in Bgy. Sto. Niño, Parañaque City will have no power on November 11-12 between 11:30 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. because of the installation and replacement of electricity poles and line reconductoring work along Pascor Drive. Affected areas include a portion of Pascor Drive from Pascor Bridge to Veronica De Leon Ave., Santa Agueda St., Delbros Ave., Pacific Drive and Atlantic Drive; and Pacific Grand Villa Subd. In Quezon City, some parts of Brgy. Payatas will have no electricity on November 12-13 between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. because of line reconductoring works and replacement of electricity poles along Paseo Del Carmen St. Affected areas include a portion of Paseo Del Carmen St. from Payatas Road (Litex Road) to Amlac Ville Subd.; Visayas St. in Dumpsite Neighborhood Association Compound; portion of Lupang Pangako Phases I and IV; Gravel Pit, Legaspi and Visayas Hills Sts.; and Amlac Senior High School.
