MANILA, Philippines – Real estate giant SM Prime Holdings Inc. booked a stronger bottom line in the January to September period, spurred by its mall and convention center segments. In a disclosure Monday, the company said its net income increased by 10 percent to P37.2 billion from P33.9 billion a year ago. In the third quarter alone, its profit reached P12.8 billion, up 8 percent from P11.8 billion. Typhoon Uwan may reenter on Wednesday – Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Uwan, which weakened over the West Philippine Sea, will leave the country either Monday night or early Tuesday morning, but it may reenter on Wednesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Monday. “It may reenter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday evening as it makes landfall over the southwestern coast of Taiwan, resulting in further weakening,” Pagasa chief Nathaniel Servando said. “Then Uwan will quickly exit PAR for good,” Servando said. In its 11a.m. bulletin, Pagasa said that Signal No. 3 was up over Ilocos Sur, the northern and central portions of La Union, and the northwestern portion of Pangasinan, while Signal No. 2 was hoisted in Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Ilocos Norte and the rest of La Union. Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque and Romblon were under Signal No. 1, it added. Estimated some 135 kilometers west-northwest of Bacnotan, La Union, “Uwan” was moving west-northwestward at 20 kilometers per hour (kph) while packing maximum sustained winds of 130 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph.

MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung-Wong) has left 1,198,039 individuals or 330,792 families affected across 11 regions, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Monday. In its 12 p.m. report, the NDRRMC stated that of the nearly 1.2 million people affected, 68 percent, or 822,355 people, equivalent to 228,097 families, are from the Bicol Region. The second most affected region in terms of population is Central Luzon with 158,697 individuals or 44,998 families affected, followed by Caraga in Mindanao with 99,109 persons or 22,018 families affected.
