NTC mobilizes amateur and civic radio groups for emergency communications

MANILA, Philippines—As Super Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung‑Wong) began battering the Philippines, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) swiftly mobilized volunteer radio networks to bolster emergency communications in affected regions. On Sunday, the NTC said its regional offices had activated amateur and civic action groups within their jurisdictions to assist in relaying critical information, transmitting updates, and supporting local response efforts. “The role of radio communications in disaster preparedness and response cannot be overstated,” the NTC said. “We commend the continued volunteerism of our country’s amateur radio and civic communication groups, whose contributions are indispensable during national emergencies.” Regional offices coordinated closely with Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (LDRRMOs) to establish clear communication lines and ensure seamless coordination during the typhoon’s passage. Emergency frequencies across UHF, VHF, and HF bands have been activated to enable real-time information exchange among responders and volunteer operators. Teams have also inspected and prepared communication facilities, verifying that equipment is operational and supported by sufficient power and backup systems. Radio operators have been reminded to prioritize emergency traffic and adhere strictly to communication protocols to maintain efficiency amid the storm. These measures aim to strengthen government response capacity as Super Typhoon Uwan brings heavy rains, strong winds, and potential flooding in vulnerable areas. By leveraging the expertise of volunteer radio operators, authorities hope to enhance situational awareness and speed up the delivery of aid and emergency instructions. The NTC urged the public to stay tuned to official announcements through radio and other communication channels, stressing that timely and accurate information can save lives during disasters.

Househelps or yayas and personal assistants make the hectic life of celebrities a lot lighter, and there's no better way to repay their service than through acts of kindness and love. In the Philippines, we've seen how local celebrities were able to build deep relationships with their yayas and PAs. They treat each other as part of their respective families and that is truly admirable and quite special. Some celebrities even go the extra mile to show how much they value them by showering them with wonderful gifts and sweet gestures. Vicki Belo rewarded her PA for 15 years, Millet, a shopping spree in Milan, Italy for her long years of service. Valeen Montenegro, on the other hand, made her two longtime yayas part of her wedding entourage as flower girls. Furthermore, Heart Evangelista treats her personal assistant since she's 18, Resty Rosell, like a family. In fact, the Global Icon always gifts her PA with luxury items to thank her for her loyalty.
