DFA: Naming of maritime affairs spox not due to row with Chinese envoy

MANILA, Philippines — Following the designation of a new Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) spokesperson for maritime affairs, the agency on Monday is fending off any possible impression that the appointment has something to with the ‘word war’ between the Chinese Embassy and some Philippine public officials. According to DFA spokesperson Angelica Escalona, the new maritime affairs spokesperson’s role was created to give importance to “how the DFA advances the Philippine interest in the maritime domain.” The denial comes after DFA’s Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Maritime and Ocean Affairs Office Rogelio Villanueva was appointed maritime affairs spokesperson. When asked […]... Keep on reading: DFA: Naming of maritime affairs spox not due to row with Chinese envoy

Duterte "offered her condolences to the bereaved families and extended words of comfort and solidarity to those affected," the Office of the Vice President said in a statement. The House Committee on Transportation is set to hold a hearing on the ferry’s sinking on Wednesday, February 11. "Our deepest sympathies go out to the families of the individuals confirmed to have lost their lives as a result of this tragic incident," Quezon City 3rd District Rep.
