LEGAZPI CITY, Albay — Classes in schools affected by ashfall from Mayon Volcano in Camalig town in Albay were still suspended on Tuesday and Wednesday. Mayor Carlos Irwin Baldo Jr. said the in-person classes in Camalig North Central School, Bariw Elementary School, Cabangan Elementary School and Quirangay Elementary School remained suspended due to risk of exposure to volcanic ash. MANILA, Philippines — Senate President Vicente Sotto III lambasted on Tuesday the spokesperson of the Chinese embassy in the Philippines for supposedly wanting to silence the upper chamber. Sotto issued the remark after the spokesperson, Ji Lingpeng, labeled the Senate’s passage of a resolution condemning the statements made by the embassy which criticized Philippine officials and institutions for positions taken in defense of national sovereignty and maritime rights as a mere political stunt.
