Heat on repeat - Hawaii's Kilauea volcano spews huge lava fountains as it erupts for 40th time since 2024

"One of the most active volcanoes in the world - Hawaii's Kilauea - entered its 40th episodic eruption since 2024. Footage released on Tuesday shows the volcano releasing fountains of lava reaching a staggering 200 metres, with hot liquid later streaming down the slopes. According to local media reports, the volcano's activity is strictly confined to the Halema'uma'u crater floor within the Kaluapele at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and poses no risk to the residential areas. Kilauea has been erupting intermittently since December 23, 2024, with activity centred on two vents in the Halema'uma'u crater. Individual eruptive phases can last up to 12 hours and are typically followed by quiet periods that may extend for more than two weeks."
