Elon Musk Stops Grok From Creating Sexualised Images Of Real People After Backlash

Keir Starmer and Elon Musk Grok will no longer be able to create sexualised images of real people without their knowledge, Elon Musk has announced. The X owner said new online safety measures had been put in place in the wake of a furious row over the so-called “nudification” of women and children on the social media platform. No.10 said the announcement was “a vindication for Keir Starmer ”, who had threatened a crackdown on the site if it did not clean up its act. Starmer branded Grok and X “disgusting and shameful” and vowed to change the law if necessary. Broadcasting watchdog Ofcom also announced that it was launching its own investigation into the controversy. In response to the row last week, X announced that the nudification service would only be made available to those who pay to subscribe to the app. But in a statement posted on X on Wednesday night, the social media platform said it had now banned the tool completely in countries where such actions are illegal. “We have implemented technological measures to prevent the Grok account from allowing the editing of images of real people in revealing clothing such as bikinis,” the company said. “This restriction applies to all users, including paid subscribers.” They added: “We now geoblock the ability of all users to generate images of real people in bikinis, underwear, and similar attire via the Grok account and in Grok in X in those jurisdictions where it’s illegal.” In a post on X, Musk said: “With NSFW (not suitable for work) enabled, Grok is supposed [to] allow upper body nudity of imaginary adult humans (not real ones) consistent with what can be seen in R-rated movies on Apple TV. That is the de facto standard in America. “This will vary in other regions according to the laws on a country by country basis.” A No10 source said: “This is a vindication for Keir Starmer who has shown he will always stand up for the people of this country - including the most vulnerable - against the powerful.” Related... UK GDP report to show if economy returned to growth in November – business live

Rolling coverage of the latest economic and financial news While we wait for the UK GDP data to land at 7am, there are signs of improvement in the housing market. A poll of UK surveyors has found that confidence is returning to the market, with expectations for sales and prices turning higher in December. “The UK residential market remains in a prolonged soft patch, with December’s survey recording a sixth consecutive month of negative momentum in buyer enquiries. That said, there are tentative signs of a shift in sentiment beneath the surface. “Near-term sales expectations have strengthened, and the twelve-month outlook has edged into more positive territory. The key test for 2026 will be whether borrowing costs ease on a sustained basis. If so, this could provide the catalyst needed to drive a recovery in buyer demand.” This morning, we receive the latest GDP figures from here in the UK, with the economy set to have grown just 0.1% MoM in November, largely resulting from the continued resumption of JLR production as the recovery from last year’s cyber attack continues. Such an anaemic pace of growth, though, is hardly a ringing endorsement of the UK’s economic prospects, not least considering that risks to the outlook remain tilted firmly to the downside, and that the fiscal ‘doom loop’ seems set to continue, with the government’s latest U-turns eroding as much as two-thirds of the headroom that Chancellor Reeves left herself at the November Budget. Fur-mally employed - Former street dog becomes City Hall ‘emotional support director’ in Merida

"Kaliman, a mixed-breed dog rescued from the streets, has become the head of the Emotional Support Directorate at Merida City Council, after receiving care and protection from municipal workers. Footage filmed on Tuesday shows Kaliman walking through the corridors of the municipal building wearing his uniform shirt and official ID badge. “We named him emotional support director because wherever we go, people ask about him - ‘Where’s Kaliman?’ If I walk ahead, Kaliman follows me, and if he walks ahead, they know I’m coming with the tools to work in the offices,” said Juan Sosa, who works for Merida City Council. Kaliman is the first dog to become a municipal employee and is the face of the ‘Huellitas Municipales’ programme, which now includes four dogs and cats who, like him, were rescued and adopted by different offices within the city council. “Kaliman arrived on his own, and we believe he had been mistreated because he didn’t want to socialise with anyone. With a bit of affection, we started giving him food and water, and he gradually began to bond with the maintenance team,” Sosa said. Kaliman was first spotted in the car park of the Municipal Palace, where staff noticed he would appear in the afternoons, when activity had slowed, to look for food and water. Employees began leaving him supplies until they gained his trust. Over time, Kaliman chose Juan Sosa, head of the Municipal Palace’s conservation area, as his guardian. Since then, the pair have shared the working day and return home together each evening. The situation of stray dogs in Merida has become increasingly critical. In 2024, an estimated 4,800 dogs were living on the streets. "

Space tapestry! Japanese astronaut captures stunning Aurora from ISS in final mission days

"Just days before returning to Earth, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut Kimiya Yui recorded a rare phenomenon of northern lights, or Aurora Borealis, at the International Space Station (ISS). Footage shared by the astronaut in his post on Sunday captured a stunning, magical spectacle of light curtains shimmering from almond green to bright pink as they slowly envelop the Earth. "I was happy that I was able to film it, but more than anything, I thought about how happy everyone would be when they saw the footage, and it made me smile to myself," Kimiya wrote. The astronaut is part of SpaceX Crew-11, which is set to depart the ISS on Wednesday and land on Thursday. The light display of Aurora Borealis appears when charged particles from the sun collide with gases in Earth's upper atmosphere at speeds of up to 72 million kilometres (45 million miles) per hour, creating a crown effect across the sky."
