"Live from the suburbs of Tel Aviv as Israeli hostages are expected to arrive at Beilinson Medical Centre on Monday, October 13, following their release under the Gaza ceasefire agreement. Medical teams and security personnel are on standby to receive and assess the returning hostages, who are being transferred from the Re’im military base after crossing from Gaza. The truce, reached through mediation by Qatar, Egypt and Turkey, includes the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, while later phases are set to address Gaza’s governance and reconstruction. According to Israeli officials, around 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees - including 250 serving long sentences - are being transferred ahead of release. Hamas confirmed 48 hostages remain in Gaza, with about 20 believed to be alive. The group has praised mediation efforts and urged the United States to ensure Israel complies with the deal. The ceasefire follows months of negotiations, with an international summit on the agreement scheduled to take place in Sharm El Sheikh on Monday."

"Activists gathered in Berlin on Sunday to oppose plans to turn the former Pierburg car-parts factory into a Rheinmetall ammunition plant, warning the project would fuel further militarisation. Footage shows crowds marching with flags and banners as police detain several demonstrators. Speakers accused Rheinmetall of profiting from war and helping perpetrate it. "I don’t know of any period in history when Germany has ever done anything for peace, only for war. Yes, they are the perpetrators of two world wars. And Germany really needs to be stopped again when it claims to stand for peace, because it always ends in war," a protester said. "Germany must assert its position in Europe as the leading power - they even say this openly. That means Germany wants to bring the European powers under its control for the next war. Germany is the warmonger in Europe - the main instigator of war," said another. The protester also added that Germany is one of the "biggest suppliers of weapons to Israel" and Ukraine. "'Never again' has to mean 'never again' for everyone, and that includes the Palestinians and also the Russians and Ukrainians. Germany should push for peace talks instead of blindly sending weapons," added a second. Rheinmetall has been expanding arms output across Europe, including a new shell factory in Unterlub, and reported record 2024 sales of €9.75 billion. Organisers said that the Pierburg site in Humboldthain will also start producing artillery shells in 2026. It comes after research by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) shows Germany supplied about 30 per cent of Israel's major arms imports between 2019 and 2023, second only to the US. Plaintiffs in German and international courts say German-made equipment is key to Israel's attacks on Gaza, arguing the ground offensive would be impossible without Berlin-maintained vehicles. The government, however, insists that all exports are tightly regulated. Similarly, Russia claims Berlin's supply of Leopard tanks, howitzers, and air defence systems makes it a 'direct participant' in the conflict. The Russian Foreign Ministry has warned that any delivery of long-range weapons, such as Taurus missiles, would mark a 'further escalation' to the 'neo-Nazi regime.' However, Berlin alleges that such military support is an act of legitimate 'self-defence' for Ukraine."
"Arca SGR of the Fast and Furio sailing team claimed victory at the 57th Barcolana regatta, presented by Generali, on Sunday. Footage shows sailboats racing across the Gulf of Trieste with speed boats and helicopters monitoring the event. The Arca Fondi SGR can also be seen powering ahead to the finish line. The iconic regatta, held in the Gulf of Trieste, saw Arca SGR cross the finish line first on an upwind leg at a steady 12 knots, completing the race in 1 hour, 43 minutes, and 42 seconds. For skipper Furio Benussi of Trieste, it marked the team's fourth victory in five years with Arca – a dominant streak interrupted only in 2022 by the historic win of Wendy Schmidt's Deep Blue, the first woman ever to triumph in the competition. This year's Barcolana event featured 1,865 boats and over 15,000 participants, turning the Gulf of Trieste into a vibrant display of sails. Since its beginnings in 1969, the race has become a signature celebration of the city's maritime spirit, uniting professional and amateur sailors in a festive competition."
"Itzik Horn, the father of Hamas hostage Eitan Horn, said it was a 'happy day' when his son would finally be released after over two years in captivity, speaking from Hostages Square in Tel Aviv on Thursday. "It's a happy day, happy because it's finally happening. It took a long time, but it's happening," he said. He also said he was 'ashamed' of those in the Israeli government - such as Orit Struck - who had criticised the peace deal. "There will be no settlement [of Jewish people] in Gaza… if they don't like it, they should leave. I don't need them. Me and them are not the same," he added. "Most people don't think like them." Horn's family are originally from Argentina. His sons, 46-year-old Yair and 38-year-old Eitan were taken hostage by Hamas from Kibbutz Nir Oz where the family lived on October 7, 2023. Yair was released previously, while Itzik has been a vocal member of the Hostages' Familes Forum. Earlier this year, he hit out at what described as abuse directed at the families, claiming they had become the 'nation's enemies'. Eitan is set to be released on Monday under the Gaza peace plan. The 20 living hostages are set to be handed over by Hamas to the Red Cross on Monday, before transfer to Re'im military base in Israel. The bodies of 28 deceased hostages will also be returned later, while around 1,700 Palestinians detained in Gaza since October 2023 and 250 more serving life sentences, will be freed under the deal. US President Donald Trump is in Israel to address the Knesset and meet with Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and the families of hostages, before flying to Egypt for the official signing of the peace deal. The first phase of the deal, agreed by Israel and Hamas last week, includes the ceasefire, the swapping of hostages and prisoners, and the Israeli military withdrawal to the 'yellow line' in Gaza. Subsequent phases will include the governance of Gaza, the future of Hamas and the reconstruction of the enclave."

"Spectators from across the country and abroad gathered along Seoul's Hangang River on Saturday for the 2025 Hangang Bitseom Festival, Korea's largest waterfront laser art event. Footage shows powerful beams of light sweeping across the night sky, transforming the riverside into a vast open-air gallery. Visitors explore vibrant light tunnels, laser fountains, and illuminated bridges that paint Seoul's skyline in colour. "It's really beautiful, especially in the rain, when the light hits the water. I love it. It's beautiful," shared a spectator. "It's immersive, and I like how they use different types of, I guess, elements, like that one sound. They have water over there," remarked another. He added, "It's a great way to impact people, and bring young and old people together, to teach them new things and show them how creative people can get." The festival, organised by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, takes place annually across six islands along the Han River, offering visitors a unique experience where nature, art, and technology come together. Running from October 2 to 12 under the theme 'Spectra of Light', this year's event features seven large-scale laser installations exploring the fusion of art, technology, and the natural landscape. Beyond the exhibits, more than 3,000 participants took part in the 'Light Run', a five-kilometre night race where runners wearing LED lights formed a glowing ribbon along the river. Now in its third year, the Hangang Bitseom Festival has become a highlight of Seoul's cultural calendar, attracting residents and tourists alike to celebrate the city's growing reputation for digital and public art."
"Hundreds of people joined an anti-colonialism rally on Spanish National Day in Madrid on Sunday. Footage shows activists chanting messages including ‘Fences and borders are how European wealth is built’ and ‘Long live the anti-racist struggle’, as well as in support of Palestine. Many of them held signs bearing ‘12 October, nothing to celebrate’ and ‘Here we remain, a land in bloom in the face of genocidal order’ and Wiphala flags. “We join today, on this day, to support these demands, understanding that there has always been colonisation, a genocide that they have tried to cover up, where many cultural and colonial measures and racist practices have clearly been imposed,” one of the activists claimed. “All the problems that exist in Spain, racist culture, the housing problem, obviously involve us migrants and racialised people more,” he continued. Donned in colourful and sparkly costumes, activists marched through the streets of the Spanish capital, energetically dancing and playing musical instruments. “In Mexico, racism and classism are everyday occurrences, and privilege continues to be the currency of exchange in how the means and possibilities for survival are divided and distributed,” another activist explained. “Work is always dictated or always given to those who have a surname capable of racialising, or a colour or a caste.” “We are here as migrants, as racialised people, experiencing what neocolonialism is, and also from our countries,” another activist added. Spanish National Day, also known as Hispanic Day, is a public holiday in Spain, which is celebrated annually on October 12. The holiday commemorates the discovery of the Americas by Christopher Columbus on October 12, 1492."
