"The 18th edition of the Tour du Rwanda concluded on Sunday with German rider Moritz Kretschy claiming the overall title, and Eritrean star Henok Mulubrhan winning the final stage of one of Africa’s most prominent cycling events. Footage shows cyclists navigating winding roads lined with large crowds of cheering fans before the winner crosses the finish line. Later, the winners can be seen standing on the podium with their trophies. For the first time in the race’s history, a German rider captured the yellow jersey. Moritz Kretschy, 24, of the NSN Development Team, secured overall victory in his third participation in the tour. “[Winning this race means] quite a lot, especially for our team,” Kretschy said. “Last year I actually came to win this race, but I had some issues with my stomach. So, this year means quite a lot for me.” Henok Mulubrhan claimed the final stage victory, becoming the first African rider to win a stage in this edition, which is widely considered the toughest in the race’s history. “I really want to win yesterday's stage and today's stage, but yesterday I arrived third. It was close every day, but finally, I got the stage victory,” Mulubrhan said. The 2026 edition comes just months after Rwanda hosted the UCI Road World Championships in September 2025 - the first time the global cycling event was held on African soil - further cementing the country’s growing stature in international cycling."

A magician reveals his visual tricks Earlier today I posted five optical illusions by Olivier Redon, a French-American inventor. Here they are again – with demonstrations of how he created the effects. Three of the images are inspired by the Necker cube, a two-dimensional drawing of a cube that can be understood in two ways: either with the bottom left face at the front, or the top right face at the front. Once your eyes settle on one interpretation, it is hard to see the other. Continue reading...

Footage shows crews attending to the damage, with Israel's Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, at the site. It comes after the United States and Israel launched a joint strike on Saturday, with US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowing to 'destroy Iran's missiles.' In response, Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps said that 'widespread missile and drone attacks' against Israel were underway. US bases were also reportedly targeted in the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Iraq and Kuwait."

"Clashes erupted in Srinagar and surrounding areas as security forces dispersed hundreds of Shia Muslims on Sunday who had gathered to express grief over the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Footage from the rally shows mourners chanting pro-Iran slogans while condemning the US and Israel, leading to a heavy security response. Security forces could be seen firing tear gas to disperse crowds as highways were cordoned off, while ambulances and police cars were deployed. Forces later sealed key areas, suspended high-speed internet, closed educational institutions for two days, and intensified checks at major entry points. Officials called these 'precautionary' measures to prevent disturbances after large demonstrations over the weekend. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in joint US-Israeli strikes carried out against Iran on Saturday, Iranian state television confirmed. The Supreme Leader, who had ruled since 1989, held ultimate authority over Iran's political, military and religious institutions. According to the Iranian Red Crescent, more than 555 people have died since the start of the war, and at least 131 cities have been impacted at the time of publication. In response, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced 'large-scale missile and drone attacks' targeting Israel. Reports also indicated that US military bases across the region, including in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Iraq and Kuwait, were struck amid the escalation."
