'No to impunity!' - Hundreds march in Buenos Aires against 'genocide' in Palestine, condemn Trump's support for Netanyahu

"Hundreds of people marched through the streets of Buenos Aires on Saturday, marking the UN International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People and joining coordinated mobilisations across Europe, Africa and the Americas. Footage shows protesters marching near the Obelisk and reaching Plaza de Mayo, holding signs with messages such as 'No to impunity', 'Retirees with and for Palestine' and 'Palestine free of genocide', among others. The event was organised by the Argentine Committee of Solidarity with Palestine and the Encounter for Memory, Truth and Justice, bringing together members of civil society and various popular, social and political organisations. "There is a call from pro-genocide organisations trying to carry out a black scarf protest in defence of the genocidal perpetrators, for their freedom. That is why, from the Encounter for Memory, Truth and Justice and the Committee for Solidarity with Palestine, we coordinated this action to state clearly that we are on the streets against the genocides of yesterday and today, in Palestine, in Argentina, and across the world. We will continue shouting no to impunity," said Celeste Fierro, activist and deputy of the City of Buenos Aires. A second protester said she joined the march to express her solidarity with the State of Palestine because, she said, they are 'living through the worst horrors'.   "Not only because of the 500 already dead that there are, because the ceasefire does not exist, but also because of the rain, the lack of food. Our heart is with the people of Gaza. We want them to be free from the river to the sea. And we will continue from Argentina fighting so that this country does not align itself with the genocidal Netanyahu and with Trump," the protester said. As part of the demonstration, the organising groups called on Argentina to adopt a firmer stance in international bodies regarding the conflict in Gaza. They also demanded the protection of civilians and the opening of humanitarian corridors. In addition to the march in Buenos Aires, demonstrations for the International Day of Solidarity with Palestine were also held in 13 cities worldwide, including Paris, Rome, Barcelona, Madrid, Oslo, Washington and Mexico City."

'The genocide continues!' - Santiago protesters accuse Israel of violating ceasefire during solidarity rally

'The genocide continues!' - Santiago protesters accuse Israel of violating ceasefire during solidarity rally

"Hundreds of people marched through the streets of Santiago on Saturday in a major demonstration marking the UN International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, joining similar rallies held in at least 13 cities across Europe, Africa and the Americas. Footage shows crowds waving Palestinian flags and holding placards reading 'Palestine will prevail, Zionism will fall' and 'Long live the anti-imperialist struggle' as they moved through the Chilean capital. Protesters accused Israel of violating the ceasefire agreement that entered into force in January. “Israel does not keep its word and is never like before. We already have a record against them; they never respect the ceasefire. So the genocide continues, the occupation in Palestine, the conflict of threat is across the entire Middle East,” said one Palestinian refugee living in Chile. Another demonstrator claimed that Israeli military action had continued despite the truce. “Israel continues bombing. Especially Gaza, but Gaza and the West Bank on both sides continue to kill. Not only Palestine, the Palestinian territories, but under the ceasefire [Israel] continues bombing Lebanon. It has invaded Syria, where they kill every day. And all this under the curtain of the United States, which places a veil over the reality of what is happening currently,” the protester said. Former Chilean ambassador to Jordan, Iraq and Egypt, Nelson Hadad, criticised ongoing Israeli operations in Gaza and warned of a deepening humanitarian crisis. “The occupation of Gaza by the Israeli Armed Forces continues. Yes, Israel continues restricting the entry of humanitarian aid; 600 trucks should go out daily, and only 150 trucks go out, so what is called using hunger as a weapon of war continues, which is part of the definition of genocide,” he said. Demonstrations marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People were also held in cities across the country and in multiple regions worldwide."

Monsoon havoc - Cyclone Ditwah devastation forces hundreds of thousands to evacuate in Colombo as govt declares state of emergency

Monsoon havoc - Cyclone Ditwah devastation forces hundreds of thousands to evacuate in Colombo as govt declares state of emergency

"Hundreds of thousands of residents in Colombo have been reportedly forced to flee as Cyclone Ditwah tore through the region, submerging homes and businesses and leaving many people still stranded. Footage captured on Saturday shows residential areas inundated as displaced families wade through the torrents carrying their belongings. Some locals sought refuge on rooftops as rescue boats tried to reach those in need. Sri Lanka has been battling severe weather since last Friday, with relentless rainfall and mass landslides destroying over 20,000 homes and leaving a third of the country without electricity and running water. On Saturday, Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake declared a state of public emergency as rescue and recovery efforts intensified. The death toll has since risen to 159, with more than 200 people still missing, according to reports. The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said fatalities increased after rescuers recovered more bodies in the heavily affected central region, where several victims were buried alive in mudslides earlier this week. Overflowing reservoirs and rivers have cut off major routes, forcing authorities to halt passenger trains, shut highways, and close multiple roads due to fallen rocks, mud, and trees. Railway tracks in several regions are completely flooded. High alerts remain in place, though authorities are hoping for some respite as the storm begins to move towards India's southern coast."
