Indonesia floods - Houses destroyed, land inundated as locals deal with aftermath in Solok
"Heavy overnight rains triggered powerful flash floods in West Sumatra’s Solok, destroying homes and burying vast stretches of agricultural land under mud and fallen logs on Sunday. Drone footage shows homes half-submerged in thick mud, roads cut off, and large tree trunks scattered across fields and between damaged buildings. Residents were seen walking through waist-deep sludge, navigating broken electricity poles and collapsed structures. Residents were forced to evacuate to temporary shelters while waiting for logistical support to arrive. Natasha, a traveller from Bali who is running an emergency public kitchen in the area, said: "We came here after seeing a post saying that two or three days ago, there was still no assistance, so we decided to come." "For this relief effort, we are using our personal funds as well as donations from our followers on social media," she added. Weather systems that brought torrential and extended rainfall have wreaked havoc across Southeast Asia, killing over 1,100 people, including 604 in Indonesia according to media reports."
