RAF in the crosshairs - Reported drone strikes on UK military base in Akrotiri amid US-Israeli offensive against Iran

"The UK’s RAF base at Akrotiri in Cyprus was hit by a suspected drone strike on Sunday night, amid US and Israeli military opperations against Iran. Footage from Monday shows the US Embassy in Nicosia with guards stationed outside. The video also shows views of the British Royal Air Force base at Akrotiri where security vehicles are seen entering and exiting the facility. Two more drones were reportedly intercepted on Monday morning. Akrotiri is one of two British bases retained in Cyprus since independence in 1960 and includes housing for military families. Following a 'suspected drone strike' authorities advised nearby residents to shelter in place, dispersing nonessential personnel while other British facilities continued operating normally. The base, situated on a southern peninsula, has previously supported operations in Iraq, Syria and Yemen. This comes after US and Israel first attacked Iran on Saturday morning. Tehran said it was responding with strikes on Israel and US assets in the region, with strikes reported in countries right across the Gulf region.  On Sunday, Donald Trump confirmed that three US military personnel were killed and admitted that more deaths were 'likely' on the American side. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was confirmed killed in a strike on Saturday.  It comes after a number of rounds of negotiations between the Americans and Iranians in the preceding weeks."

Lock and load - Israeli Ministry of Defence airlifts military hardware, munitions for IDF positions as conflict with Iran spirals

"The Israeli Ministry of Defence released footage on Monday purportedly showing military hardware and munitions being unloaded from a transport aircraft at an undisclosed airport in Israel for onward delivery to IDF positions, as the conflict with Iran escalates. The exact contents, date and location of the footage could not be independently verified. "Operation Roaring Lion - Israel MOD Launched an Aerial and Maritime Airlift to Deliver Military Equipment and Munitions to the IDF," the ministry said on X. The US and Israel launched joint strikes on Saturday, with US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowing to 'destroy Iran's missiles'. Israel refers to the mission as 'Roaring Lion,' while the US has designated its portion of the campaign as 'Operation Epic Fury'. In response, Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps said that 'widespread missile and drone attacks' against Israel were underway. US bases were also reportedly targeted in the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Iraq and Kuwait. The developments follow three recent rounds of talks between Iranian and American officials, one held in Muscat and two in Geneva. Russia, China, France, Bahrain and Colombia have called for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council, where members were divided between urging an immediate halt to hostilities and pressing Iran to abandon its nuclear programme."

'We are on the way to eradicate this disease' - Brazil launches historic dengue vaccination campaign with first national single dose vaccine

'We are on the way to eradicate this disease' - Brazil launches historic dengue vaccination campaign with first national single dose vaccine

"The Brazilian Ministry of Health launched on Monday a dengue vaccination campaign aimed at health professionals, with the expectation of protecting 1.2 million workers using the Brazilian vaccine developed by the Butantan Institute, 100 percent produced nationally. Footage shows health professionals administering vaccines at a public health center in Rio de Janeiro. The campaign is part of the National Immunisation Program [PNI] and prioritises primary care professionals, including doctors, nurses, dentists, community health agents, and support staff in public units, aiming to reinforce protection for those who were on the front line against dengue in 2025. "This vaccine is starting to be applied to health professionals here in Rio de Janeiro. So this week we are applying 12,500 doses," said Daniel Soranz, Municipal Health Secretary of Rio de Janeiro. The Butantan-DV vaccine is the world's first single-dose dengue vaccine and was previously authorised by the National Health Surveillance Agency [Anvisa] after clinical trials showed efficacy against all four virus serotypes, representing a milestone in Brazilian medicine. "The vaccine that is manufactured here in Brazil is very important, because we are a reference in terms of vaccines," said Luisa, a health professional. Dengue is a viral disease transmitted by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, circulating endemically in tropical and subtropical areas, and can cause infections ranging from mild symptoms to severe cases or hemorrhagic dengue. Dengue is not transmitted from person to person, but through infected mosquitoes. According to preliminary statistics from the Ministry of Health, Brazil recorded a significant drop in dengue cases in 2025, with reductions of more than 70 percent compared to 2024, although health authorities continue active surveillance. This decline is attributed to prevention campaigns, mosquito control, improved clinical management, and the arrival of the national vaccine. Authorities expect the campaign to gradually expand to other eligible groups as more doses become available. The overall goal is to reduce hospitalizations and deaths, while strengthening preparedness for future dengue peaks."
