Jim Carrey's Team Dismisses Speculation About His César Awards Appearance

On Thursday, the Bafta nominee attended the Césars in Paris, where he received an honorary award for his contribution to the film industry over the decades. However, when pictures of Carrey at the event began doing the rounds online, some fans felt that he didn’t look like his usual self, with some going as far as to question whether he’d sent some class of impersonator to attend the ceremony for him . This was fuelled even further when the drag queen and makeup artist Alexis Stone – known for his dead-on celebrity transformations – hinted that he had actually gone to the Césars in Carrey’s place. However, a representative for the Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind actor has now set the record straight, insisting to People magazine : “Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award.” Jim Carrey on the red carpet at the César Awards The Césars’ general delegate also issued a statement to Variety , which read: “Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer. From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation. Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions. “He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words. He came with his partner, his daughter, his grandson and 12 close friends and family members. His longtime publicist accompanied him. His old friend Michel Gondry, who has made a film and two series with him, was there, and they were delighted to see each other again.” As for the speculation after the Césars, the general delegate said that it was a “non-issue” to him, insisting he’d prefer to remember the Canadian actor’s “generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance”. Carrey is best known for his array of film work which has included The Truman Show, Man On The Moon, Batman Forever and The Grinch, as well as comedies including Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Bruce Almighty, Liar Liar and Dumb And Dumber. In the last decade, he’s largely taken a step back from the spotlight, but has led the TV series Kidding, played Joe Biden in a series of Saturday Night Live sketches and portrayed the villainous “Eggman” in the Sonic The Hedgehog movies.
