'Nigeria is ready for business' - Tinubu urges global finance reform, calls for mineral partnerships over 'just extraction' at ADSW

"Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday called for a fundamental reform of the global financial architecture, which he said imposes 'unfair restrictions' on developing countries. Speaking at the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) Summit, Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria will no longer accept the role of a 'raw material exporter.' "I take this opportunity to invite partnerships that ensure not just the extraction of minerals, but local processing and value addition, thus creating jobs and strengthening industrial capacity at home in Nigeria," he said. "Nigeria is committed to ensuring that the transition to a sustainable future is just and inclusive [...] Nigeria is ready for business," he added. Furthermore, Tinubu described negotiations over a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with the United Arab Emirates as a 'historic milestone' that will open a new chapter of cooperation in renewable energy, artificial intelligence, aviation, and climate-smart agriculture. He also announced that Nigeria will co-host 'Industriopia' in Lagos this February alongside the UAE, a global forum bringing together investors, innovators, and policymakers to turn ideas into sustainable investment. Under the theme 'Nexus of Next: All Systems Go,' Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026 unites global leaders to accelerate climate solutions. Running from January 10 to 14, the event serves as a premier platform to bridge the gap between global policy, technology, and large-scale sustainability investment."
