Israel-UN standoff? - Army 'sets up temporary checkpoint' as United Nations force moves in near Quneitra

"Israeli army personnel could be seen appearing to set up a checkpoint between Ofania and Jabata al-Khashab in the countryside of Quneitra, southern Syria, in footage filmed on Thursday.   The video shows Israeli soldiers standing on the road as vehicles passed by. A vehicle and personnel from the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) could also be seen at the location.   Ali al-Hariri, a local resident, claimed the Israeli forces had caused panic and fear among residents, with soldiers searching cars and checking personal identification documents.   Local media reported that Israeli forces established a checkpoint on the road between Ofania and Jabata al-Khashab for more than an hour, during which civilians, vehicles, and pedestrians were searched.   According to reports, UN forces moved toward the checkpoint and remained on site until Israeli forces withdrew toward a nearby military base. No comment had been issued by Israel or the United Nations at the time of publication.   Since the transitional government took power in Damascus in December 2024, Israel has expanded its military presence in southern Syria, moved forces into the buffer zone, and carried out air and naval strikes targeting much of Syria’s military arsenal, saying the moves aim to prevent weapons from falling into the hands of what it describes as “hostile forces.” "

Sharon Stone Uses Acceptance Speech To Call Out Rude ‘Kids’ At The Ceremony: ‘F**k You!’

Sharon Stone speaks onstage during the 2026 Astra Film Awards earlier this month. Sharon Stone doesn’t need an ice pick to murder …someone’s ego. The Basic Instinct star got revenge on some tablemates at the Astra Awards last week, after they apparently didn’t recognise her and even went as far as accusing her of stealing her seat. According to footage uploaded to YouTube , Sharon used her acceptance speech to call them out. “To the kids at my table who wondered, ‘Who the fuck took that chair?’ Now you know,” the Casino star said at the top of her speech. “Yeah, someone came over and said, ‘Who are you and why are you sitting here?’,” Sharon added. In response, the audience gasped as the Oscar nominee appeared incredulous. “As she said, ‘Fuck you!’,” Sharon retorted. The Emmy-winning performer did not name who these tablemates were. HuffPost has reached out to Sharon Stone and the Astra Awards for more information. Sharon then went on to urge her tablemates to channel their status as public figures into something more positive. “More importantly, and more to the point, I’d like to say welcome to you. And I’d like to say, this is an opportunity [...] because I started my activism work when my fame kicked in. And I’d like to give you an opportunity to start your activism work now that your consciousness has kicked in,” Sharon said. “Because fame without awareness, success without purpose, is pointless,” she continued. Sharon has been a very dedicated advocate for AIDS research, and has been involved with amfAR (American Foundation for AIDS Research) for decades. During her sprawling, nearly 10-minute speech, she also covered her childhood, career and what it means to her to be a “decent” person. Stone speaks at an amfAR gala in 2014 in Cap d'Antibes, France. But, she sure didn’t forget about the diss she got earlier in the night, and circled back to tablemates at the end of her speech. Sharon told the audience to “carry home someone you’re proud of, and you, too, will be timeless, whether the people at your table know who you are or not”. “Here’s what I’m going to tell you,” Sharon concluded, while pointing at her table. “You know who I am now.” In 2024, Stone opened up to Good Morning Britain about her career fizzling out after taking a hiatus from Hollywood following a stroke and subsequent brain hemorrhage that almost killed her in 2001. “I was sort of hurt that the world moved on without me,” she said, while also admitting she has “kind of gotten over it” by now. But if her speech last week was any indication, she may still feel some of that sting.
