"Anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement demonstrators clashed with federal agents in Minneapolis on Wednesday night after a man was shot in the leg by an ICE officer during a traffic stop north of the city. Footage from the scene shows ICE and Department of Homeland Security officers launching tear gas and stun grenades at the crowd. Some protesters dispersed, while others reportedly hurled objects at the agents. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), federal officers stopped a Venezuelan national who was in the US unlawfully during an enforcement operation in north Minneapolis. DHS said the man fled the stop, crashed into a parked vehicle and then ran on foot. When officers pursued him, two other individuals emerged from a nearby apartment and allegedly attacked an officer with a shovel and a broom handle. "Fearing for his life and safety as he was being ambushed by three individuals, the officer fired a defensive shot to defend his life," DHS said in a statement. Authorities said both the officer and the man who was shot were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The two individuals accused of attacking the officer were arrested. The confrontation occurred amid heightened tensions in Minneapolis following last week's shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, who was killed by an ICE officer. Good's death sparked widespread protests and political dispute over the use of force by federal agents. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem defended the officer involved, claiming Good had 'weaponised her vehicle' against agents and describing her actions as an 'act of domestic terrorism.' President Donald Trump said Good was 'very disorderly' in a post on his Truth Social platform, accusing her of 'obstructing and resisting' and claiming she 'violently, willfully and viciously ran over the ICE officer.' Minnesota Governor Tim Walz urged the public not to 'believe this propaganda machine,' calling for a full, fair and expeditious investigation to ensure accountability and justice. The FBI is leading the investigation into Good's shooting, while Minnesota officials say state investigators have been denied access to evidence and interviews, complicating efforts for independent review. On Monday, the state of Minnesota along with the municipal governments of Minneapolis and St Paul filed a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security, seeking to halt federal enforcement operations in the region."
