Meghan Markle Weighs In On The Future Of Her Controversial Netflix Series

Meghan Markle on the set of With Love, Meghan Meghan Markle is casting doubt on the future of her divisive Netflix series in its current form. Earlier this year, the Duchess of Sussex premiered her lifestyle series With Love, Meghan , in which she offers tips on things like cooking, gardening and hosting, alongside different celebrity guests. Upon its release, the show was heavily criticised by both viewers and critics for feeling out of step in the current social and economic climate, with a follow-up season dropping over the summer and receiving similar backlash . Speaking at the Fortune Most Powerful Women summit in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, Meghan was asked about her various collaborations with Netflix, including With Love, Meghan. Asked about the future of her series, she responded (as reported by The Independent ): “The holiday special is coming out in November and [that’s] a really good one.” Meghan added: “We’re able to say eight episodes for two seasons, it’s a lot of work. I also recognise how much people want content in different sizes. “So, part of what we’re testing out now is… it’s amazing to be able to sit and watch a show for 30 minutes, but how can I give you a recipe in two minutes, and where can I share that with you, and how that continues to grow [Meghan’s lifestyle brand] As Ever.” Meghan added she is now “exploring all the options of what it could look like”. Last year, it was announced that Meghan and her husband Prince Harry had signed a smaller, “first-look” deal with Netflix. This means that Netflix has first refusal over the couple’s projects, and if they pass on them, Meghan and Harry are free to pitch them elsewhere. The pair’s previous collaborations with the streaming platform included the documentaries Harry & Meghan (which explored their respective upbringings and the early years of their relationship), Live To Lead (a celebration of different influential figures and world leaders) and Polo (which, as the name suggests, was about polo). The former Suits actor said on Tuesday: “My husband and I were in an overall deal with Netflix, and then [...] once that had come to its term, the extension of it, which was such an incredible sign of the strength of our partnership, was now being in a first look deal.” Meghan insisted this deal is an “exciting” one, “because it gives us flexibility to go to our partners first, and then at the same time, to be able to shop content that might not be the right fit for Netflix, but has a home somewhere else”.
