Lisa Nandy Accuses Richard Holden Of 'Shouting Like A Man In A Pub' Over China Spy Row

Richard Holden on Politics Live. Lisa Nandy accused Richard Holden of “shouting like an angry man in a pub” as the pair clashed on live TV over the China spy row . The culture secretary at one point had to tell the Tory frontbencher to “calm down” as he continued his rant on the BBC’s Politics Live programme. The clash came amid the ongoing political row over the collapse of the case against two men accused of spying on the UK for China. The Tories have accused the government of deliberately failing to give the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) the evidence it requested so as to avoid damaging Britain’s relationship with Beijing. But Downing Street has instead blamed the last Conservative government for failing to officially classify China as a “threat” to the UK. Holden, the shadow transport secretary, told Nandy: “You’ve literally sent a trade delegation with Rachel Reeves to China within the last few months and then you accuse us of not having a hard approach when we were the ones who charged these guys. At prime minister’s questions, the PM announced that the government will publish all of the evidence it submitted to the CPS. Badenoch said Starmer had been “dragged” to this position and added: “It is simply unbelievable that he is trying to say the last government did not classify China as a threat.” The Tory leader said Cash and Berry “were charged under a Conservative government – they were let off under Labour”. She added: “What is the point of us having a lawyer rather than a leader as prime minister when he can’t even get the law right on a matter of national security?” But Starmer hit back: “She’s clearly not a lawyer or a leader. The problem for her is that I do actually know the law, I know what’s got to be proven.” Related...
