You are defeated, president Trump! - Honduras ruling party pres candidate accuses US of interference in elections, criticises pardon for Juan Hernandez

"The presidential candidate of Honduras ruling Libertad y Refundacion (Libre) party, Rixi Moncada, denounced what she had referred to as 'interfering' actions by the US President Donald Trump ahead of Sunday's general elections. During a press conference at the Libre party central headquarters in Tegucigalpa on Saturday, the ruling-party candidate criticised the recent support expressed by the US president for businessman Nasry Asfura of the National Party, and reiterated her accusations against him and Salvador Nasralla, candidate of the Liberal Party, calling them 'puppet candidates' of the United States. "You are defeated, president [Trump]. Your puppet candidates were not up to the task. And because you are defeated, you had to come out during the electoral silence to carry out two campaign events against the candidate of the resistance whom the Honduran people support," Moncada said, referring to Trump’s recent messages of support for Asfura on social media. "Our countries have always been besieged. Honduras has not been the exception. We defend universal principles of the self-determination of peoples, of independence, of respect for sovereignty, the democratic order, the power of the people. But we have always been besieged by interfering behaviours and actions," she added. Moncada also criticised another Trump's announcement concerning former president Juan Orlando Hernandez's pardon, who was sentenced to 45 years for drug trafficking in the United States.
"Two days before the elections, a pardon to bring organised crime back, to bring the biggest criminal organisation Honduras has ever had, not only in corruption but in drug trafficking," she said, adding that the oligarchy of the Central American country ran to Washington so that their 'main boss' would be pardoned and brought back during the elections. In turn, Libre party supporters also slammed the pardon announced Trump. "And even though the president of the United States has the right to do it (the pardon of Juan Orlando Hernandez), because he is the president of his country, he is not the president of Honduras, right, therefore Honduras, as a free, sovereign, independent country, can also prosecute him, because here in Honduras he committed crimes," said politician and teacher Dionisio Castellon. "The United States is in favor of drug trafficking and what Donald Trump is doing makes him look like the main drug boss in the United States and worldwide," said supporter Xiomara Altamirano. On November 30, more than 6.3 million Hondurans will be able to go to the polls to decide who will be the next president of the country. According to the latest polls, ruling-party candidate Rixi Moncada and opposition candidates Nasry Asfura and Salvador Nasralla lead the voting intention. In addition to choosing their new president, Hondurans will vote for 128 deputies to the National Congress, 20 representatives to the Central American Parliament, and various local authorities."
